Thieves Did Not Spoil the Day for Florist

Mon, 16 Jan 2012

Careless thieves stole hundreds of bouquets from a hard-working florist on Christmas Eve however they did not spoil the day for them.

Around 1pm on Christmas Eve staff at Acer Florists on Chester Road, Helsby, loaded the remaining dozens of hand made festive bouquets when a gang of thieves struck.

One of the gang of three thieves jumped in the van, which was laden with £1,200 of festive flowers, reversed and raced off on the wrong side of the road through the village, just missing oncoming cars.

There were just a few hours left before the flowers should have been delivered.

The owner, Jan Hayes, states that she was ‘overwhelmed’ as staff, friends, family and customers united to help recreate the orders and gave the police descriptions of the thieves to the police.

Jan says that it was fortunate that the thieves did not kill anyone.

The van was found just a few yards from the shop front. The last bouquet was being awaited for loading therefore the driver had placed his keys down and gone to the toilet when the theft happened.
