Florists Do A Roaring Trade in Orchids

Fri, 03 Feb 2012

Florists are doing a roaring trade in orchids .

Orchids are grown in their millions in nurseries across the country.

Britons have taken to these flowers in their millions.

Orchids are available in their thousands; purple, pink, yellow and red waves.

You can get elegant, exotic orchids in various colours, shapes and sizes.

Orchids are no longer available within the confines of florists; they are ubiquitous, to be found in garden centres and supermarkets.

Britain has gone doolaley when it comes to orchids.

They are now the UK's most popular house plant and this is not likely to change soon.

Orchids have become so popular as they are not only beautiful to look at; their flowers last for a long time and they are plants which you can literally keep forever.

Marks and Spencer sells 1.5 million worth of orchids every year, at prices ranging from £6 to £45. They sold 10 per cent more orchids at Christmas than the year before.

Global trade is considered to be worth £7 billion per annum, with the British market trebling in only six years.
