Internationally Renowned Florist Remembered

Tue, 22 Nov 2011

In 1986 Jane Packer was the provider of all the flowers for the Duke of York and Sarah Ferguson's wedding .

She got her first pay packet as a schoolgirl doing a Saturday job at her local florist's.

She spent the majority of it on flowers to take home. By the age of her death, 52, her personal realm had become an international brand.

Nobody can brand a rose ; however, a Jane Packer black bag guaranteed aesthetic bouquets, delivered in New York, London, Tokyo or Seoul.

Jane came from Essex and her father was a gardener.

She worked in fashion for a while and took from it ideas to approach floristry differently. At just 22 in 1981, she got a 25-year lease on a shop.

She was just 23 when the Times featured one of her bridal bouquets .

1989 saw her open her first flower school in the basement of her Maida Vale home, which in time moved to Marylebone. There are presently Jane Packer Flower Schools in New York, Seoul, Hong Kong and Tokyo, plus shops in New York, Japan and South Korea.

In the UK, Jane launched a nationwide delivery service known as Jane Packer Delivered.

She created vases and candles for Debenhams as well as fragrances .

Jane also wrote various books, translated into many languages, rendering her one of the most widely read authors of flower books world wide.
