Regional Competition Success For Reaseheath Florists

Tue, 03 May 2011

Floristry students from Reaseheath College in Cheshire are celebrating after claiming the top three places at a regional competition.

Victoria Tempest, from Manchester, Vicky Carr from Nantwich and Hollie Thompson, from Sandbach, came first, second and third respectively in the intermediate section of the WorldSkills UK regional heat - the first of a series of regional competitions organised by the British Floristry Association (BFA) to find the country’s best young floral experts .

The highest scoring competitors across all heats will be invited to a UK final at the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park in July.

"I was delighted with the result and received some really useful feedback from the judges," said winner Victoria Tempest, who along with her college colleagues is studying for a diploma in floristry at the Nantwich-based college.

"It’s amazing to think that I could be competing against the best in the world in 2013 provided I continue to work hard to gain more skills and experience," she added.

BFA moderator Deborah Richardson commented: "This event is designed to identify talented and eligible florists who have the potential to be trained to join the WorldSkills UK squad and represent their country."

"The selection procedure is very rigorous and even those who win at the national final are not guaranteed a team place."

"However, this early heat has set a very high standard and has introduced us to some very exciting young talent."
