Florist Creates Iconic Locomotive Entirely Out Of Flowers

Tue, 01 Feb 2011

A York-based florist has built a replica model of the iconic Flying Scotsman locomotive using nothing but flowers .

The impressive floral model has been put together by Louise Lancaster, owner of Heaven Scent Florists, in York, to mark the launch of the National Railway Museum’s model-making competition.

The museum is inviting members of the public to create a model of the Flying Scotsman to be in with a chance to win a ride behind the iconic locomotive once her restoration is completed this summer.

Helen Ashby, head of knowledge and collections at the museum, said: "This competition is about giving everyone, young and old, the chance to win this once-in-a-lifetime prize."

"We’re not necessarily looking for the most accurate model of Flying Scotsman – we’re looking for a really creative, and unique model."

"We don’t mind what it’s made of, be it clay, Lego, lollipop sticks or even flowers! Hopefully entries will come flying in."

All entries must be received by April 28 and be accompanied by an entry form, which is available online at nrm.org.uk/scotsmancomp.

The winner will be announced in June.
