York Station Florist Seeking New Site For Business

Tue, 24 Aug 2010

A florist who has been operating in York for over twenty years is hoping to move his business to a new site within York Station in a bid to boost trading.

Ashley Corbett said business at Forever Spring, which sells flowers, balloons and ribbons from the main concourse at York Station, has suffered since he was asked to move his patch last November for health and safety reasons.

The 48-year-old has now applied for permission to move his stand from its current location on the left-hand side of the main entrance to the station to a new base in the portico section.

He said: "It’s vital that I’m able to move and I hope the planners at the council will realise how important it is to my business continuing, but I’ll just have to wait and see now."

"I appreciate health and safety is obviously very important, but I’d had a stall here for 22 years without any problems until I was asked to move last year."

"The problem is just that, because of where I am at the moment, customers can’t see me and that has affected my trade."

In his application, Mr Corbett said the new base for his flower stall would be taken off the busy main path into the station concourse and "would brighten up and greatly improve a dark corner of the station".

City of York Council planning officers are expected to make a decision on Mr Corbett’s application next month.
