Florists Run Fundraiser In Aid Of Cancer Support Charity

A fundraising event at a North London florist proved a great success last week, with more than £100 raised for charity in just two hours.

Florists Salli Zachariou and Sibel Djafer, who run the Sabella Floral Design store in Enfield, held the event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, which pays for care nurses for cancer sufferers and support for their families.

Around 25 residents attended the fundraising coffee morning - one of several held in the Enfield borough in support of the World's Biggest Coffee Morning.

Also present was Mayor Cllr Eleftherios Savva, who spoke about the importance of the charity to people affected by cancer, and also praised the florists for getting involved in the community.

Miss Djafer said: "That was really important to us, because we really encourage that. Our doors are always open to people to come in, have a chat and a coffee ."

The two florists began running the event last year along with friend Liz Petruccio, whose mother died from the disease in 2006.

She said: "I had three friends who all lost parents. Two of them had been in contact with Macmillan nurses and they said how fantastic they were."

Macmillan Cancer Support said it hopes to raise more than last year's total of £7.5 million.
