Florist Suffers Loss Of Stock Due To Flooding

Tue, 22 Dec 2009

A florist that has proving beautiful blooms in Norfolk for over 40 years has had three quarters of its floral stock destroyed due to flooding .

Ann Pratt, owner of Blofield Florists, in Blofield, near Norwich, said up to 8 inches of water swept through her shop following a pipe burst, causing damage to her stock of flowers and the store itself.

"I was only saying the other day that we have never had any disasters here, such as a fire," she said.

"The flood happened at about 3am when a water main burst out the back. The water just completely flooded the car park at the back and water gradually filled the shop.

"It reached about 8 inches and, when the front door was opened, flowers just floated out."

Despite the damage to the store and the loss of stock, Mrs Pratt and her staff have managed to fulfil orders by relocating the business to an empty shop across the road.

She added: "We have all kept cheerful and there have been no tears. I believe you just have to get on with things."

"Despite the flood, Blofield Florists is still open. Even after 40 years a flood cannot dampen our spirits."

"I must say our customers have been absolutely wonderful and so have the people around here - we have been offered lots of cups of tea and even bacon sandwiches to keep us going."

Last month, Mrs Pratt said business over the past year had been the best she had seen since her and her mother began trading some 40 years ago.
