A Scarborough florist is celebrating after coming third in the national finals of the ‘Florist of the Future’ competition.

Representing the North East of England, Dawn Dyson-Threadgold of Louise Florist competed against nine other professional florists representing other regions of the UK at the Interflora conference held in Manchester.

Mrs Dyson-Threadgold, who has worked at Louise Florist for three years, achieved third place overall after impressing judges with her party-themed designs, which included a party bag, birthday party table setting and designer's choice.

She commented: "I am delighted with this achievement. I have always had a passion for flowers and horticulture and I take influence from my art and theatre background."

"I took inspiration for my designs from the rock 'n' roll theme and the 1950s.The party bag and rock n roll hand tie could be prepared prior to the competition whereas the designer's choice and birthday party table setting were created under a strict time limit under the watchful eye of a panel of Interflora judges."

The 37-year-old florist added: "I would like to thank everyone at Louse Florist for all their help and support throughout the competition process."

Mrs Dyson-Threadgold became a florist after spending 15 years in the theatre as a stage manager . She trained for her current role at East Riding College while working at Louise Florist .
