Waitrose is set to offer shoppers a variety of pinks for the first time in 10 years.
The upmarket grocer announced that the bloom, a smaller relative of the carnation renowned for its fragrance, is being made available in response to growing demand for UK flowers .
Six varieties of spicily-scented pinks, sourced from a speciality grower in Lincolnshire, will be stocked in all stores nationwide from tomorrow.
They will include Gran's Favourite and Bright Eyes, while seasonal editions such as Devon General and Lily the Pink will also feature.
Waitrose said sales of British blooms have risen 30 per cent year on year and added that 75 per cent of its summer sales are due to sales of British flowers .
Commenting on the launch, Waitrose flower buyer Louise Motala said: "Championed at this years Chelsea Flower Show, pinks are a real symbol of the quintessential English summer."
"The decorative flowers have a superb scent, meaning shoppers can now enjoy the delights of the country garden from the comfort of their own living room."
She added that the retailers dedication to sourcing plants and flowers from the UK "when they are naturally in season" eliminates the need for travel, meaning fresh flowers can be ready for sale just a day after being picked.
