A florist from Reaseheath College in Cheshire is heading off to Japan to represent the UK in a leading flower competition .
Natalie Stanyer, 21, is Britains sole representative and will compete against the worlds top young florists in the WorldSkills competition, held in Shizuoka next month. The event showcases the vocational skills of people from around the world aged under 22.
Joining her on her journey will be head of floristry June Shallcross and instructor Sarah Parker, who will observe the Olympic-styled competition .
The college team are hoping to make a good impression on the event, as global recognition would aid the team in its attempts to play a leading part in 2011 event which will be held in London .
"Im really excited about the competition. Its going to be amazing going against competitors from many other countries," Natalie commented.
Natalie faces four gruelling days of competition, during which she will be required to create between eight and 12 floral designs .
The young florist, who has attended Reaseheath for three years, gained her ticket to join the England squad by winning a gold medal in the national UK Skills competition in 2005.
She has since elevated herself to the international stage after receiving high-level training in Holland and with a master florist in Germany .
The 21-year-old has also had to excel in fitness and aptitude tests to ensure the UKs candidates are not fazed by a combination of long flights and the competitions demanding international standard.
Head of floristry June Shallcross said: We are thrilled to have the opportunity to support Natalie in Japan and to promote Reaseheaths name internationally."
"We are very proud that one of our students has proved good enough to be selected as the sole florist to represent the country."
She added: "Natalie is an exceptionally talented student and will be a good role model for up and coming competitors who, hopefully, will be inspired to follow in her footsteps."
