A supermarket in Cumbria is stocking a crop of locally-grown poinsettias, also known as the miracle plant .
The crop of festive flowers, more commonly seen in their native Mexico, was grown in Preston, Lancashire, from where the store was supplied with its festive blooms .
Booths floristry buyer Hannah Wareing commented: "Its always been Booths ethos to support local producers, and by stocking plants grown in the region were also keeping flower miles to an absolute minimum, which is much more environmentally friendly."
Up until Christmas, Arden lea Nurseries in Preston will supply Booths with around 20,000 poinsettias, with each plant arriving in one of the florists 26 stores within hours of leaving the nursery .
Poinsettias are the best-selling plant in the UK during the Xmas season. The plants famous red colouring comes from their bright leaf-like bracts.
The plant was once regarded as a weed in South America, but it is now seen as a miracle plant thanks to a Mexican Christmas legend.
