First Flower Event To Open At New Covent Garden Flower Market

The New Covent Garden Flower Market is set to hold its first trade event, which aims to inspire and inform flower buyers from London .

The Celebration of London Floristry open day is set to take place on October 17 and intends to exhibit the quality and variety of the product available at Covent Garden through a combination of the work of some of the capital’s leading floral designers and promotions by tenants .

A selection of the UK’s top names in event floristry will be showcasing spot-lit floral displays throughout the market and holding floral design demonstrations on the event stage.

Tenants’ promotions will be running on stands during the course of the day, providing a wide variety of offers including free samples, new variety launches, discount offers and a specific promotion on British flowers .

Liz Anderson, a consultant for the event, said: "The event is very much geared to the trade. The ultimate aim is to increase footfall and the amount that people are spending at the market."

The New Covent Garden Flower Market hosts the most extensive range of foliage, flowers and floral sundries available in Britain and can boast to having around 75 per cent of florists in the London area as its customers .

Traders source flowers and foliage from premium growers in the UK, Italy, South America, Israel, Africa, South East Asia and the Netherlands .

Wedding and event florist Mathew Dickinson, who sources 99 per cent of his fresh flowers, foliage and plants from the market, commented: "The sheer range and quality of the materials on offer there is a constant source of inspiration, and gives us our creative edge."

The event is only open to the floristry trade and is strictly by pre-registration only.
