Clare Florist has launched its first Fairtrade product this week A Fairtrade Rose bouquet which will be available for delivery throughout the UK .
The roses are certified by the Fairtrade Foundation and can be ordered online at clareflorist.co.uk .
By using the Fairtrade mark, flower farms are provided with the basic labour and environmental standards, the elimination of forced and child labour as well as ensuring workers are given fair wages, suitable working conditions (comply with health and safety standards), while promoting freedom of association and collective bargaining.
In addition, farms under the Fairtrade mark are also committed to encourage workers to join trade unions so that they are better represented and to resolve housing issues.
The new Fairtrade Roses will also enable customers to improve the quality of the lives of workers by supporting community, environmental and economic development projects through the Fairtrade premium that is included as part of the Fairtrade pricing scheme .
Through the sales of Fairtrade roses, a wide range of implemented projects have been able to blossom, which include the development of education facilities, purchase of equipment and furniture as well as extra access to water supplies in local villages.
