For someone who always loved gardening, their passion turned into a successfully run farm called Grand Oak Herb Farm in Bancroft, Detroit .
What started out as a one roomed building, through sheer hard work and perseverance over the 26 years Beulah Hargrove now has a two-roomed gift shop on her farm. Customers can buy decorations for the home, country art, dried and silk flower arrangements, 28 varieties of potpourri, herbs and essential oils.
Hargrove said, "Ive built this slowly over the years. I started out with one building. Now there are nine.
The other buildings are used for drying and designing where with the help of two employees, herbs and flowers are dried and arranged from the 21 gardens on the farm.
As well as the garden shop a short walk away, there is a tearoom that can be booked for events by prior booking. It is in the tearoom that Hargrove provides high tea for groups and imparts her knowledge of herbs and organic gardening.
The tea is stored on open shelves in the tearoom when it is not being used and served in fine bone china when groups are visiting. Edible flowers from the farm are a big part of the high tea menu.
Another of the buildings is used to host classes and workshops for wreath making and organic gardening classes to name just a few of the classes on offer.
The farm is closed to the public during the three months after Christmas .
During spring, summer and autumn visitors can go for walks through the garden.
